Troubleshooting

Fix AIExportHub source-tab detection, selective loading, Notion uploads, authenticated file downloads, missing media, rate limits, and failed bulk jobs.

Use this guide when AIExportHub cannot detect a source tab, load conversations, retrieve an attachment, upload media to Notion, or complete a bulk job.

Start with the failed stage

Open the job details and identify whether the failure occurred during:

  • Source-tab connection
  • Conversation list loading
  • Conversation detail loading
  • Image or file download
  • PDF or Markdown generation
  • Notion page creation
  • Notion file upload

Retrying the correct stage is faster than restarting a complete history export without reading the error.

The popup says Refresh Required

Refresh the source AI tab, wait a few seconds, then reopen AIExportHub.

This often happens when the tab was open before installation, the platform replaced its page state, or Chrome has not attached the content script to the current document.

The popup says No Match

Open a supported source page:

  • ChatGPT: chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com
  • Claude: claude.ai
  • Gemini: gemini.google.com
  • Perplexity: perplexity.ai or www.perplexity.ai

Then open a conversation, refresh the tab, and retry.

No conversations appear in Bulk or Selective Export

  1. Confirm the correct source account is open in Chrome.
  2. Open a conversation list or conversation page.
  3. Refresh the source tab.
  4. Reconnect that tab in Bulk Export.
  5. Load the initial page again.
  6. Use Load complete history only after the first page succeeds.

For Projects, Gems, or Spaces, choose the collection before loading its conversation list.

A long title hides the selection control

The current Selective Export list places checkboxes in a fixed leading column and truncates long titles. Hover the title to read the complete value.

If you still see the previous layout, update the extension from the Chrome Web Store and reopen the options page.

Notion is disabled

Notion requires all of the following:

  • Connected source tab
  • Authorized Notion workspace
  • Selected database
  • Saved Notion settings

Reconnect Notion, refresh the database list, select a database, and use Open database to verify the destination.

An image or file is missing from Notion

Check:

  1. Upload Images and Upload Files are enabled.
  2. The source tab remained open and signed in.
  3. The original conversation still displays the asset.
  4. The job details do not show a source download or Notion upload warning.
  5. The file is still accepted by the destination.

Readable Markdown, text, JSON, HTML, code, or SVG assets may appear as child pages instead of binary uploads. See Images, Files, and Generated Assets.

ChatGPT says a connected tab is required for a generated file

Protected ChatGPT sandbox files must be resolved and downloaded through the source tab that loaded the conversation.

  1. Open the exact ChatGPT conversation.
  2. Confirm the generated file link still works in ChatGPT.
  3. Keep that tab signed in and open.
  4. Reconnect it in AIExportHub.
  5. Retry the failed conversation or attachment.

Do not close the source tab after conversation loading; the attachment stage may run later in the same job.

The error says no file bytes were available

This means the export reached an asset record but did not receive usable binary content.

Common causes include an expired signed URL, deleted source file, signed-out source tab, account switch, interrupted request, or a file the source platform no longer exposes.

Refresh the original conversation and retry. AIExportHub cannot reconstruct a file that the source platform no longer returns.

Perplexity images are missing

Update AIExportHub, then retry from an open signed-in Perplexity tab. The current extractor scans supported generated-image records across plan results, assets, media blocks, inline media, canvas data, and unified asset responses.

If the source image is visible but still missing, inspect the warning for the preferred download URL or host and retry one thread before a larger Space export.

Claude content appears twice in Notion

The current Notion exporter deduplicates repeated Claude attachment records and places generated child pages directly beside their source messages without adding duplicate top-level page links.

If an older export already contains duplicates, use Overwrite to regenerate that destination page from the current extension version. Confirm that destination edits can be replaced before choosing Overwrite.

Chrome asks where to save every file

Open Chrome Settings, go to Downloads, and turn off Ask where to save each file before downloading before a large Markdown, PDF, or Library job.

Files are saved to an unexpected folder

AIExportHub uses relative Chrome download directories. Check the configured:

  • Markdown directory
  • PDF directory
  • ChatGPT Library directory
  • Chrome default download location
  • Platform-aware Project, Gem, Space, or archived-chat subfolder

Absolute system paths are not supported.

A Perplexity job stops because of rate limits

AIExportHub stops cleanly when Perplexity explicitly rate limits a job.

Wait before retrying, reduce the date range or Space selection, increase the configured delay, and retry only failed records. Repeated immediate retries can prolong the rate limit.

A complete history job is slow

Large jobs load conversation lists, fetch details, retrieve assets, generate output, and possibly upload files sequentially.

Try:

  • A small Selective Export first
  • Latest instead of All
  • A date-filtered Perplexity job
  • Fewer selected collections
  • A configured delay
  • Text-only media settings only when media is not needed

Keep both the source tab and Bulk Export Workspace open until completion.

Upgrade required for bulk export

Single export and Custom Export are free. Bulk Export includes a per-platform free quota. After the quota is exhausted, sign in with an active Pro or Lifetime account.

Open AIExportHub Pricing for plan details.

Retry failed items

After a run:

  • Retry failed records instead of restarting all items.
  • Treat warnings as incomplete output until verified.
  • Confirm skipped items were excluded by duplicate protection.
  • Open one output and check the first and last message.
  • Verify source URL, collection metadata, images, files, and child pages.

If the same item fails repeatedly, copy the specific stage error and contact [email protected] with private conversation content removed.
