Claude Personal Finance: A Pre-Connect Privacy & Eligibility Checklist
Anthropic’s Personal Finance feature is rolling out in beta. It connects selected US bank accounts through Plaid so Claude can read spending information and show financial widgets. The useful question before you click Connect is not only “can I use it?” but “what will it see, and what will remain in my chat history?”

Quick answer
- Personal Pro, Max and Ultra plans are the current plan range; Free, Team and Enterprise are excluded.
- The feature and connected banks are US-only, and the entry may be hidden when you are abroad or using a foreign VPN.
- Plaid access is read-only. Claude cannot move, manage or invest your money.
- Claude can connect up to 16 banks and read up to 24 months of selected transaction history.
- Conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Claude. Outside that hub, your normal privacy settings apply.
- Beta access is gradual, so a missing menu does not necessarily mean your account is permanently excluded.
Quick self-check
Could Claude Personal Finance be available to you?
Likely eligible — beta access is gradual.
Run the full checker →Who can use it—and why you might not see it yet
You need a personal Pro, Max or Ultra plan, US location and US bank accounts. Team and Enterprise organizations are outside the current scope. Claude Code, Cowork, scheduled tasks and Claude Duet are also outside the supported contexts; use the web, desktop or mobile apps instead.
The rollout is gradual. The feature may be under More in the Claude sidebar, and being on the right plan does not guarantee that the menu is visible today. If you are unsure of your plan, check Settings → Billing before connecting anything.
What Claude can—and cannot—read
For the accounts you select in Plaid, Claude may receive:
- Bank names.
- Account names and types, plus last four digits.
- Balances and credit limits.
- Up to 24 months of transactions, including amount, date, merchant, category and the bank’s description.
Claude does not receive your bank password through the feature. It cannot move, manage or invest money, and the official help page does not describe access to investment holdings, trades, loan rates or loan terms.
Check account names and transaction descriptions before connecting. If your bank includes a full account number in either field, that number could appear in Claude’s context. Claude can make mistakes, and balances may be delayed by a day or two. Verify important figures against your bank’s own app or statement.
Training and privacy: the “inside the hub” detail
The training statement is narrower than a general “Claude does not train on finance data” claim. Chats inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Claude. If you copy the same figures into an ordinary Claude chat, a Project, or another workflow, the privacy setting for that context applies.
Finance data also remains part of normal chat history until you delete the conversation. Anthropic’s hosting providers and Plaid process data under their own terms. Personal Finance conversations are not saved to memory, included in later search, or added to monthly recaps according to the help documentation, but that does not make a shared conversation private.
Sharing links and artifacts can expose figures
Treat a finance chat like any other sensitive record. A shared link can reveal account figures to the person who opens it. Published artifacts can remain available after you delete the original chat, so do not publish an artifact that contains balances, account names or transaction details.
You can turn the Plaid connector off for a chat or set it to Needs approval. That gives you a review step before Claude reads connected data.
Claude vs ChatGPT Finances
Anthropic’s help page confirms a Personal Finance dashboard with widgets for spending, cash flow, accounts, subscriptions, upcoming bills and insights. A TechRepublic comparison table incorrectly says Claude has no financial dashboard; the official documentation is the source used here.
TechRepublic is currently the only source we found for the ChatGPT Finances details below, so treat them as reported rather than confirmed:
| Detail | Claude Personal Finance | ChatGPT Finances |
|---|---|---|
| Plans | Pro, Max, Ultra | Free, Go, Plus, Pro (reported) |
| Region | US only | US only (reported) |
| Connector | Plaid | Plaid (reported) |
| Access | Read-only | Read-only (reported) |
| Dashboard | Yes, widgets | Yes (reported) |
| Credit score | Not mentioned in official docs | Yes, via Experian (reported) |
| Max banks / history | 16 banks / 24 months | Not verified |
| Training | Hub chats excluded; outside the hub follows your settings | Not verified |

A ten-point checklist before connecting
- Confirm you are comfortable with balances, credit limits and up to 24 months of transactions being read for selected accounts.
- Select only the accounts you need in Plaid.
- Look for full account numbers in account names and transaction descriptions.
- Keep the “inside the hub” training distinction in mind.
- Do not share links or publish artifacts containing account figures.
- Decide whether the connector should be off or require approval in each chat.
- Learn how to unlink a bank; unlinking the last bank resets the dashboard.
- Verify important numbers in your bank app because Claude can make mistakes.
- Remember that cancelling a paid plan does not automatically unlink banks.
- Back up chats you want to keep before adding finance data to your history.
How to unlink or stop using it
Open Personal Finance, choose ⋯ → Manage linked accounts, and unlink the bank or all banks. You can also disconnect from my.plaid.com. Unlinking the last bank resets the dashboard and cannot be undone.
Cancelling Pro, Max or Ultra removes access but does not automatically disconnect your banks. If you move to Team or Enterprise, or delete your Claude account, the help documentation describes different automatic-unlink behavior. Check the current instructions before changing plans.
Back up your Claude chats before you connect a bank
Claude’s official account export does not currently include the Personal Finance dashboard. Finance conversations still live in ordinary chat history. If you want a local copy of selected chats—or want to clean up your history before connecting a bank—use an exporter first:
- Claude Export Hub compares destinations.
- Claude to Notion saves selected or complete conversations into Notion.
- Claude to PDF creates local PDFs.
- Claude to Obsidian saves Markdown locally.
These browser extensions process exports in your browser. Remove account numbers before sharing any exported file.
