How does ChatGPT to Obsidian work?

The extension downloads your ChatGPT conversations as markdown files directly to your local Downloads folder. You can then move these files into your Obsidian vault.

Where are files saved?

Files are saved to Downloads/{folder}/ where {folder} is the name you configure (default: 'obsidian'). This folder is created automatically.

Does it sync with Obsidian automatically?

No, files are downloaded to your local Downloads folder. You manually move them into your Obsidian vault. This gives you full control over what goes into your vault.

Can I download only part of a conversation?

Yes. Use the checkboxes next to assistant responses to select specific Q&A turns, then click 'Export Selected' to download only those parts.

Does it support ChatGPT Group Chats?

Yes. You can download full group chat history from /gg/ pages, keeping author names and message order.

Can I bulk download multiple conversations?

Yes. Click the 'Bulk Download' button in the extension popup to access the bulk download page where you can export multiple conversations.

Are images included?

Yes, if you enable the 'Download Images' option. ChatGPT-generated images are saved to an images/ subfolder and linked from the exported Markdown.
