How to install and debug the local development version of ChatGPT to Notion extension

When to Use Local Version

The local version is useful for:

  • Testing new features before official release
  • Debugging issues with the extension
  • Getting early access to bug fixes

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Google Chrome browser installed
  • The local version zip file downloaded

Installation Steps

1. Download and Extract

Download the local version zip file and extract it to a folder on your computer.

2. Open Chrome Extensions Page

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar
  3. Press Enter

How to use local version

3. Enable Developer Mode

Toggle the “Developer mode” switch in the top right corner of the extensions page.

4. Load Unpacked Extension

  1. Click the “Load unpacked” button
  2. Navigate to the extracted plugin directory
  3. Select the folder and click “Select”
  4. Verify the version shows as 1.2.0 or higher

5. Disable Chrome Web Store Version

If you previously installed the extension from Chrome Web Store:

  1. Find the Chrome Web Store version in your extensions list
  2. Click “Remove” or toggle it off
  3. Ensure only the local version is enabled

Verify Installation

After installation, you should see the local version of the extension in your Chrome toolbar with the correct version number.

Using the Local Version

  1. Connect to your Notion account as usual
  2. Navigate to ChatGPT.com
  3. For chatgpt.com, refresh all pages before exporting
  4. Start batch exporting conversations

Common Issues

  • Extension not loading: Make sure you extracted the zip file completely
  • Wrong version showing: Verify you selected the correct folder when loading unpacked
  • Both versions active: Disable or remove the Chrome Web Store version
